One Thing After Another

When trying to complete a project or reach a goal, we all come across snags or hold ups that either cause our goal or project to cost more, be postponed or take longer, and maybe get cancelled all together. Unexpected expenses can drain savings that were earmarked for your project and injuries can put an indefinite hold on reaching your goals. Over the last six and a half weeks I have dealt with several obstacles that have cost money, time, and caused extreme pain.

The first rock in the land slide of challenges was a cold that I caught that was inches from pneumonia. I was unable to train for a week and a half because I was unable to breathe properly and I felt incredibly weak. As soon as I was healthy, my training help got appendicitis. He was sick, sore, and unable to help for another week and a half. Upon my help returning, I had several issues with my bike that had it in and out of the bike shop, only allowing a few training sessions that week. When I finally got my bike squared away, I was on my third day of hard training and near the end of my workout, I partially tore my bicep tendon. I’m still recovering from the partial tear and doing my best to remain focused through ongoing trials and sporadic training.

Because my training has been postponed, I’m going to have to train that much harder. However, I feel lucky to have gone through these trials for two reasons. The first reason is because I will appreciate being able to consistently train. Following a consistent regiment is so beneficial. It doesn’t give our muscles a chance to atrophy or lose hard earned progress. The main reason these last six and a half weeks have been a good thing is because when I complete my goal, when I finally reach Huntington Beach, and when I’m finally able to help other people with the money I raise, it will mean so much more knowing that I overcame more than just the miles in front of me.  The more I overcome and the more barriers I break through to reach Huntington, the more accomplished I’ll feel!
