Spinal Ride Introduction

On April 25th, 2009, I was in a car accident that resulted with me in the hospital, and ultimately left me in a wheelchair. However, that is not what my postings will be about. That is just the blessing that was that has allowed me to create a way to raise a substantial amount of money for a good cause. As well as test the boundaries of my own determination and willpower by pushing myself to new lengths.

After breaking my neck I began therapy at a spinal cord injury rehab clinic called Neuroworx. Neuroworx is a nonprofit organization that is able to function from the usual clinic income that comes from billing patients, as well as a supplement from donations and fundraisers. Neuroworx is an awesome clinic because they treat a patient based on what they need, not what they can bill a patients insurance for. They are the only clinic in the Western United States that offers such a wide variety of treatment options.

I have been attending Neuroworx for close to four years and decided that it is my turn to do my part in helping further the cause of spinal cord rehabilitation. In late September, early October of 2014, I plan to ride a hand cycle from Idaho Falls to Huntington Beach, California, around 1100 miles. Completing this ride will break the current quadriplegic hand cycle world record from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Huntington Beach, 786 miles. I’m excited to hold the hand cycle world record, yes! But the reason i’m most exited for doing the ride is to raise money for Neuroworx. My goal is to raise $100,000 to donate to Neuroworx to help them continue their business venture of helping those in wheelchairs get back on their feet.
